Pretty, Pretty Pastel Please? – Spring 2012 Handbag Trend

Posted in FASHION, HANDBAGS, SHOPPING, STYLE COLLAGES, STYLISH PICKS OF THE WEEK with tags , , , , , , , , on April 9, 2012 by stylebymeli

I wanted to showcase spring’s freshest handbags with a little fashion eye candy that captures pretty pastels in various shades.  It’s also nice seeing pastels with feminine touches:  lace, floral designs, bows, hearts, and all other girl styling details.

I actually do not like to wear too much pastel clothing (I’m too fair, so it doesn’t contrast against my skin as nicely), but when it comes to handbags, I am all about it! Personally, I’m very much liking pastel peach sorbet shades, which I’m seeing a lot this season.

Meli’s Fall Fashion 2011 Wish List And My Top 10 Trends That I Will Be Wearing This Season

So it officially feels like fall in New Jersey and I’m excited to share what I’ll be wearing this season, along with what I’m totally lusting for right now!  Fall is my favorite season, not just for the weather but for the FASHION of course! ;)

* First, I’d like to start with my fashion wish list (as depicted in the collage I created above):

-  Tassle metallic wedges (OMG these Jeffrey Campbells I found through Polyvore are TO DIE FOR, I’m so obsessed with the tassles and mettalic finish and the height of these bad boys…WOW, THESE ARE TOO BEYOND AMAZING FOR WORDS!  I may have to splurge on these, like for real)

-  Red skinny jeans (I love the idea of these, they are sharp and striking)

-  High waist pants (I’m on a total high waist kick, I only own high waisted shorts and skirts…could go for some high waisted pants)

-  Accessories with tassles, animal print, and red (I love all those design elements)

 *  Also still looking for a fur (real) bag!  Ideally a white rabbit fur one :)
*  I could also use a cropped leather motorcycle jacket for my edgy side
*  Thin belts…I own a lot of thicker ones and could use a really chic thin one to cinch a look or two!

Moving onto the trends I’m totally wearing this season (along with some throw-backs from last season)…

-  Bodysuits (I currently own a white one and my new J Crew black/white stripped off shoulder)

-  Stirrups (I don’t see myself giving up my stirrups, these may not be a common trend, so I will just classify it as a “Meli trend” that is NOT going anywhere anytime soon!  I like to be a trendsetter like that!)

-  Black leggings (I still live in black leggings and have different variations with zippers on the bottom sides along with a riding style look)

-  Skinny jeans (Although all kinds of shapes are coming back in style, I am still 100% loyal to my skinny jeans and NOT ready to retire them or convert to any other pant style just yet)

-  Jeggings (I love the comfort and smooth fit of a nice pair of jeggings…I have two pairs: a dark denim and acid wash)

-  Black arm warmers (Don’t see this trend too frequently, but they are hot and visually really cool looking while also being very warm of course.  This is another “Meli trend”)

-   Metallics (I typically favor gold but like metallics in all varieties)

-  Red (Red is bigger and bolder than ever this season, just as much as when I first wrote about this trend…I’m still wearing red with full confidence!)

-  Animal print (I especially love it with shoes and accessories, but totally open to it within clothing in moderation)

-  Lace (I favor black lace but love white lace as well.  Actually, I pretty much like any lace although I can be semi-picky with the actual lace print itself.  Regardless, lace is always a feminine and pretty choice)

Speaking of black lace, I just converted my summer everyday bag to my Guess swan doctor satchel that I purchased a year ago. This is going to be my everyday fall bag. I surprisingly didn't use it all that often last season and look forward to using this daily!

[Stylish Picks of the Week]: Floral Bodysuit + Leather Shorts + Peep Toe Wedges

Posted in SHOES, STYLISH PICKS OF THE WEEK with tags , , , , , , , , on July 15, 2011 by stylebymeli

I absolutely adore this floral bodysuit.  The print design is just beautiful, along with the blend of colors within the print.  It also happens to be Dolce & Gabbana, so what’s not to like?!

I styled this with high waisted black leather shorts, that would go over the bodysuit.  I wanted the shoes to also be edgy like the shorts and went with these black peep toe wedges.  I thought it would be nice to throw in a little white with more subtle accessories, hence the white crossbody selection finished with a lucite necklace (lucite jewelry is ALWAYS a nice finishing touch in my eyes, especially paired with an outfit that already has a lot of colors) and a silver knuckle ring for added edge.

What I really love about this outfit is that it captures the true essence of my styling aesthetic:  edgy feminine chic.   It has a soft feminine quality (the floral print) layered with more edgy pieces such as the leather shorts and black peep toe wedges.  I truly love playing up both qualities of a woman through fashion.

I don’t know about you, but I’m totally liking the thought of black leather shorts right now (it may not have much practicality, but for fashion statement purposes, I would rock them in a heartbeat).  I guess I should first start by wearing my new black lace shorts, then I can move onto the black leather! ;)

[Stylish Picks of the Week]: Long cardigan + Romper + Nude Wedges

Posted in FASHION, HANDBAGS, JEWELRY, SHOES, STYLISH PICKS OF THE WEEK, SUNGLASSES with tags , , , , , on July 7, 2011 by stylebymeli

Here is a look at my first [Stylish Picks of the Week], where I will create a collage each week with a look I put together.  I love layering long cardigans over anything that reveals the legs (such as dresses, shorts, skirts, and in this case, rompers).  I sometimes like to then belt the center as a finishing touch.  In this case, I didn’t provide a belt because I like how the sides of the cardigan have a flowing effect and I didn’t want to cover the vertical line (from the zipper of the romper).  Remember:  Vertical lines are almost ALWAYS a good thing, as it will elongate your silhouette.

The shoe design is FABULOUS.  I love that it is pointed but has curves.  I love how it is a heel but it’s also a wedge.  It’s brilliant how this pair of shoes has everything going on at once.  The nude shade is also perfect where it’s not too light, not too dark.  It is for this reason that I think most people can pull off this shoe, no matter what skin tone.

For jewelry, I came across this really cool chandelier cuff (never seen such a thing, how elegant and unique) and small silver ring.  The handbag is gorgeous, although I would have preferred that it had silver hardware like everything else.  (Keep in mind, I think it’s totally okay to mix metals, just in moderation).  I also added a pair of hot shades to complete the look.
