Tomorrow, May 26th, MAC launches their full summer collection, “Surf Baby,” which features a nice mix of limited summer products in bronzy shades and with subtle pops of color.  It has a 70′s beach vibe to it, which is the inspiration behind the collection.

I’ll be completely honest, this is not my favorite summer collection (FYI, one of my all-time favorite summer collections was “Moonbathe” when it came out in the white packaging).  The color story behind this collection doesn’t impress me too much and I feel the packaging doesn’t help enhance the collection either.  Putting that aside, I will tell you what product I am most interested in…

MAC "Surf Baby" Careblend Pressed Powder bronzers

For a pressed powder, I have to say I am pretty impressed with MAC’s careblend pressed powders, which is a fairly new formula that came out in various shades a few months ago.  Although I do like loose powders the majority of the time, these pressed powders get my stamp of approval in terms of the blend-ability and overall silky smooth texture.  The coverage is natural and not dry looking in any way.  So I am very curious to try out these new shades in “Lush-Light Bronze” and “Gold-Go Lightly”.

Surprisingly, the lip products from this collection don’t totally wow me either.  Then again, my lipstick and lipgloss collection is massive as it is and now I have the capability of creating my own shades using GIELLA custom blend cosmetics, so I am a little bias.

Here is a closer look at what’s coming out…(I personally like the lighter lipstick in “Naturally Eccentric” and lipglass, “Girl on Board” from the collection given the choices).

On a more exciting note, I have to say, I am looking forward to the Suntints, which are tinted lip conditioners that only come out in the summer time.

I like that they come in a squeeze tube packaging as well (as compared to the stick and pot editions that came out in previous years).  They are great to wear by itself for a sheer effect or over top a lipstick for a glossy shine.

This collection also features two sets of crushed metallic stackable pigments (which rarely ever come out in a collection).

These are loose pigment shadows that provide a high metallic shine.  I like both sets of colors, especially the pink/plum set.  However, I’ll admit–I personally do not use loose shadows or pigments all that often.  I like to stick with pressed eye shadows.

Overall, the collection has some nice surprises, but I definitely think I have seen better summer collections in the past.

MAC – “Quite Cute” Collection REVIEW (Do Not Miss Out on Spring’s Hottest Shades!)

Posted in BLUSH, EYE MAKEUP, LIPGLOSSES, LIPS, LIPS - LIPSTICKS, MAC MAKE-UP, MAC MAKE-UP COLLECTIONS, MAKE-UP, PRODUCTS I LOVE, SHOPPING with tags , , , , , , on April 6, 2011 by stylebymeli

Tomorrow, MAC officially launches their “Quite Cute” collection…although considered their prom inspired collection, I think everyone can thoroughly enjoy it.

Can I just say, I have been dying for this to come out and that this may very well be my ALL-TIME FAVORITE MAC collection launch?!?!  I’m incredibly impressed by the color story behind this collection, as it features a wonderful candy-colored assortment of pastels and brights for the cheeks, lips, eyes, and nails. It’s absolutely brilliant and I pretty much want it all!

Here is a glimpse of some of the amazing colors from MAC's "Quite Cute" collection.

As much as I’d like to cut back and limit myself on only a few items from “Quite Cute,” I have a pretty long shopping list of what I will be picking up tomorrow…(here it goes):

Lipsticks (I’m buying 3/5— Please note that “Saint Germain” is part of the collection, which I already own as it’s part of the permanent collection.  Be sure to read my post regarding this being one of my ALL TIME favorite lipsticks, if you have not already):

*  “Quite Cute” – This is a pale lavender cremesheen.  Obsessed. I’m sure this may not be the MOST flattering color in the world on most people, but I know I can find a way to work it if it doesn’t look good by itself.  I don’t know what it is, but I’m really attracted to these types of shades.  It has an artsy/hipster feel to it, which I really appreciate.

I plan on buying 2 of these (given I LOVE it).  I regret not buying a back-up of “Fashion Mews” from the Hello Kitty collection years back as this was a GORGEOUS lavender color and to this day, one of my favorites.  ”Quite Cute” sort of reminds me of this shade.

I also regret not buying “Lavender Whip” at the time it came out as it was really limited and now I can’t find it! :(  Hence why I am NOT going to make the mistake of not buying two of these.  I have a feeling that being this color is such a rare shade, MAC will be making this super limited.  So don’t wait on buying this as I’m sure it will be one of the first to sell out!

*  “Playing Koi” – I was in love with this color the moment I saw it!  It’s a peachy nude pale pink with a satin finish.  I have a feeling I’m really going to need to line this color and pop it with a gloss to make it work, but then again, when do I not do that?!  Being it’s super pale (and I typically hate colors that are too nude as I am so fair), I’ll have to think of creative ways to pull this off.

* “Candy Yum-Yum” – The name of this lipstick is quite delightful (I almost wrote, “quite cute” right there) and too hard to pass up!  I was really debating about this color being that it’s really NOT the most practical shade in the world and I already own quite a bit of hot pink lipsticks (which I don’t even wear nearly as often as I’d like to).  However, I decided I will get this shade because it’s a neon hot pink with at MATTE finish.  I’m ready to experiment with this shade even if I only wear it a handful of times this season.  Bright lipsticks ALWAYS look good against fair skin and personally, I’m never afraid to go bold with lip color.

Plushglass (I’m buying 3/4):

* “Bubble Tea” - This is your basic everyday beige/nude color.  I think everyone can pull this off and enjoy it.  I plan on using this as a top coat to a lipstick, not so much by itself.

* “Fashion Fanatic” – This is a pretty sheer light pink with a warm undertone.  Again, something I’d layer over a lipstick.

* “Girl Loves Boy” – I may have to buy two of these.  This is that PERFECT baby pink color which I’m always a big fan of.

[The reason why I decided to pass on the fourth shade, which is a lavender shade is that it seems to be just a little too sheer for my liking.  Plushglasses always tend to be sheer and there is a chance I may change my mind and get it, but I really think I will pass on this one unfortunately].

As for the lip pencils (there’s three: “Naked Liner,” “Boldly Bare,” and “In Sync”), they are a relaunch and will stay permanent in the line.  I already own all of them. “In Sync” is AMAZING!  My all-time favorite lip liner if I’m going for a light, nude pink.

As for the eye shadows, there is one quad of four colors coming out.  This is something I personally will pass on.  It takes A LOT for me to buy an eye shadow as it’s not really something I’m obsessed with (I’m very basic with my eye makeup on an everyday basis).  Regardless though, I’m not too impressed with the overall colors in the quad due to the color and texture of the shadows.  I think most people would agree with me that the highlight of the collection is truly the lip products.

There are also three mineralize blushes coming out and they feature little hearts at the center!  It’s a cute idea!

Also, there are three nail polishes coming out with the collection and they are all BEAUTIFUL pastel shades for the spring season.  Pastel is everywhere in the beauty scene and nails are no exception. Although I’m not a huge nail polish person, I am DEFINITELY picking up the mint pastel green shade, “Mischievous Mint” and cannot wait to wear this on my toe nails!  I have ALWAYS longed for a pretty mint green color and finally found one I am truly  in love with.  The other shades, “Ice Cream Cake” and “Little Girl Type” are also really pretty.

I am sure I will write a collection follow-up to this post once I picked up all the items I listed above and show cool ways to wear them!

What makes this collection deserving of such a great review is that all the colors are playful, fun, and totally on trend for spring.  They are refreshing and full of life!

Totally Excited About My *New* Spring MAC Makeup from the “Jeanius” Collection and “Supreme Sheen” !!!

Some new spring makeup I picked up from MAC today!

So spring is definitely in the air…at least at the MAC store it is! ;) Today, they launched two new collections and although I’m not getting into a full review (since they are mini collections), I figured I’d just share a few of the items I picked up today.  I CANNOT WAIT to play with my new makeup and try these tomorrow.  Actually, I already tried the lipstick as shown in the photo!

The “Jeanius” Collection featured two blushes:  “Pink Cult” (dusty pale pink) and “Overdyed” (bright fuchsia pink) and as you can see, I had to have them both! They are quite different from each other and I really find both of them to be really pretty, especially for the spring!  For starters, I love that they BOTH have a matte finish (actually the “Overdyed” is classified as a Satin finish, but it’s pretty matte).  I tend to ALWAYS gravitate towards a MATTE blush.  (It’s just a personal preference).

I typically wear coral based blushes on an everyday basis, but being that I like to experiment with color, I thought it would be nice to add these pinky shades to my blush collection. I’m obsessed with new blushes in general!  As I said, BLUSH makes a WORLD OF DIFFERENCE for the face!  I’m curious as to how these will turn up on my skin, I have a feeling I’m going to really like them both!  (And hey, if not, they’ll be warmly accepted in my makeup kit!)

As for the eye shadow, I picked up “White Jeanius” (shimmery white with silver sparkle in it). Typically I don’t really splurge on an eye shadow (I always rather have a new lip product OR blush); however, I liked this white color and thought it could work if used light-handed as a brow highlight or for the inner corner of the eyes (for brightening).  I feel whites can blend with ANYTHING and I’m just curious as to how this eye shadow texture compares to the regular MAC eye shadows.

Moving onto the new line of lipsticks called, “Sheen Supreme,” I surprisingly ONLY picked up one shade called, “Behave Yourself” (bright bubble gum pink with slight shimmer). I was very tempted to pick about 3 or 4 shades, but found that the other shades I was interested in, did VERY much resemble something I already owned and I’m not sure how I feel about the new texture.  I’m also really trying to cut back on my lipstick purchases in general as I easily have over 100!  (Excessive, very much so, then again…I am a lip junkie and makeup artist, so I rationalize with, why not?)

Look at ALL the pretty colors! My favorite one being, "Behave Yourself"

I ended up picking just one shade, if I really like it, I will consider trying out a couple more colors.  I’m a little on the fence about these lipsticks because although they are very creamy and smooth on the lips (it feels like butter actually and I like that!)…I question it’s wearability (usually super smooth lipsticks wear off rather quickly) and I’ve heard that these are somewhat comparable to MAC’s discontinued “Slim Shines,” which honestly, was not a favorite lip item of mine.  Too sheer for my liking!  Being these lipsticks have such a high shine and creaminess to them, I think they can very easily be worn without a gloss.

Lady Gaga’s NEW MAC Viva Gaga Lipstick and Lipglass are Officially Launched Tomorrow!

Starting tomorrow, Lady Gaga’s new Viva Gaga lipstick and lipglass will be available for purchase at all MAC locations. I really love the new visual, Lady Gaga looks angelic and in a total dream trance.

For people unfamiliar with MAC’s Viva Glam campaign, ALL (yes, the full 100%, not a measly percentage) the money from a Viva Glam product goes to the MAC Aids Fund. It’s truly wonderful for MAC to bring awareness to a charitable cause and Lady Gaga for continuing to be a spokesperson for the Viva Glam campaign.

As for the new shades, they are definitely in the nude family.  The lipstick is a bit too nude for me personally (I am about an NC25 in MAC terms), but could definitely work depending on what I layer with it.  I think this lipstick would flatter someone with a little more color in their skin, so that it didn’t just blend with their natural skin tone.

The lipglass is very pretty and can be layered with almost anything since it’s nude.  It can be used to even tone down a brighter lipstick.

MAC – “Wonder Woman” Collection REVIEW

Posted in EYE MAKEUP, FACE, LIPGLOSSES, LIPS, LIPS - LIPSTICKS, MAC MAKE-UP, MAC MAKE-UP COLLECTIONS, MAKE-UP, MAKE-UP BRUSHES, PRODUCTS I LOVE, SHOPPING with tags , , , , on February 9, 2011 by stylebymeli

Pow!  Bam!  Zap!  Here it is…MAC’s spring 2011 launch, a collection inspired by Wonder Woman with a burst of flashy, fun colors that will officially launch at MAC locations Thursday, February 10th. I must say that this collection is definitely exciting because it features some really innovative pieces along with some cool collector’s items.

For starters, this collection features makeup bags in a metallic blue and red.  They are pretty simple in the design, but hip if you’re looking for a new makeup bag in a bold color.  What is even more hip is that there are two brush sets (featuring 3 brushes each) that come in a gold utility belt, or in other words, a gloried fanny pack! I know this may not be the most practical thing in the world, but it is definitely a hot collector’s item and just fun, fun, fun.  The brush sets are a MAC store exclusive.  There is also a collector’s compact mirror AND T-SHIRTS that are both ONLINE MAC exclusives.

The brush sets are a MAC store exclusive. The eye brush set includes a short handled: 213, 109, 224. The face brush set includes a short handle: 190, 129, 194.

Moving onto to bigger and better things…quite literally…MAC has come out with JUMBO sized products, specifically in:  lipglasses, penultimate liquid eye liners (only black), powder blush duos, and the mineralize skinfinishs.

I’m most intrigued by the jumbo lipglasses (in four shades) and mineralize skinfinishes (in two shades with a blend of three colors).

Look at the pretty jumbo sized lipglasses!

These mineralize skinfinishes are MASSIVE! (In a good way) ;)

Other nice things I really enjoy from this collection: the three different eye shadow quads (blue, green, and pink/purple combinations), COLORED Opulash mascara (about time MAC has put out an assortment of fun mascara colors in blue, green, and bright purple), #48 lashes (MY STAPLE LASHES ARE FEATURED IN THIS COLLECTION!  NICE).

[I also don't want to fail to mention lastly that the collection offers a couple shades of the following:  pigments, reflects glitters, and nail lacquers.]

My Must-Have List:

- “Themyscira”: (Blue Opulash mascara- blue always looks striking)

- “Emancipation”: (Pale shimmery nude pink jumbo lipglass – Yes, I know I own a million lipglosses, this is the last thing I need right now, but there is really nothing that is exactly like this shade and I NEED at least one jumbo sized lipglass in my life!!)

(I’m limiting myself to those two items for the time being, but I’m also very much in love with:)

* “Athena’s Kiss”: (Bright fuchsia jumbo lipglass – I think the color is BEAUTIFUL, although I do have a few things that kind of resemble this)

* “Valiant”: (Eye shadow quad in the green tones – All the greens are unique and just stunning)

* “Defiance”: (Eye shadow quad in the pink/violet tones – Again, a really pretty set, I love it all)

OVERALL…I think the collection was really well done, from the packaging to the actual products. I would have liked to have seen jumbo sized lipsticks in addition to the jumbo sized lipglasses (and more colors…”Russian Red” is a permanent MAC shade and “Marquise d’” has already come out previously–which I happen to own already).
*  My prediction is that the colored mascaras and mineralize skinfinishes will be instant sell-outs.  The eye shadow quads and lip products will also do exceptionally well.
