STYLE BY MELI – Look of the Week [9/21/10]

Posted in EVENTS, EYE MAKEUP, FASHION, JERSEYLICIOUS, LIPGLOSSES, LOOK OF THE WEEK, MAC MAKE-UP, MAKE-UP on September 21, 2010 by stylebymeli

This look was actually created exactly a week ago (I just have not had the opportunity to post it in greater detail until today) when I went to Briella’s birthday party.  She comes to me when she needs makeup and it was nice of her to invite me!  Her party was held on a boat and will be featured in “Jerseylicious” this season during episode 13.  It should be fun to watch the episode knowing that I was there!

WHAT I AM WEARING…

- Purple cocktail dress (XOXO)

SHOES:

- Lavender heels with rhinestone detailing (Prada)
[These designer shoes are amazing and surprisingly comfortable!]

JEWELRY:

- Clear beaded lucite bracelet (Metropark)

- Silver ring (Forever 21)

MAKEUP: For the makeup, I wanted to go for a more smokey look and big lashes with more emphasis on the eyes.

EYE SHADOWS:

- MAC “Carbon” –> Jet black matte (LID)

I layered this shadow over “Blackground” paint pot, which is a dark grey black with shimmer.  For creating a super smokey look, “Blackground” is essential for eye prepping.

- MAC “Copperplate” –> Medium grey matte (CREASE)

This is a great color for a smokey look or even incorporated in the daytime.

- MAC “Solar White” eyeshadow –> Shimmery goldish white (HIGHLIGHT)

I wear this all the time!

* Please note for the eyeliner, I used a Korres WHITE eye liner pencil inside the waterline (on the bottom) with a black pencil lining the actual lash line.  This always picks up nicely in photography.

- MAC #6 lashes

These are big and dramatic!  Love them!

BLUSH:

- MAC “Peaches” blush –> Bright peach blush, matte

This is my typical jam, I especially wanted to wear it being that the eyes were really cool with the grey, I wanted brighter brush to warm up the cheeks.

LIPS:

- MAC “Boldly Bare” lip liner –> Neutral brownish/pinkish tone

This was a limited color but there are many other lipliners that could have worked out with this lip such as MAC “Whirl” which is sold all the time.

- MAC “Myself” lipstick –> Creamy neutral, lustre

This is another discontinued product from a previous MAC collection.  Although it is discontinued, I figured I’d show a photo of what the color looks like.  It is a basic neutral color without being too nude (where I feel washed out).

- Smashbox “Pout” lip enhancing gloss –> Pastel baby pink

Although I am true to MAC when it comes to the majority of my makeup (especially lip products)…I absolutely LOVE this lipgloss.  This color is totally my style when it comes to lipgloss.  It’s very sheer so it is best to wear over lipsticks.

“Jerseylicious” Season 2, Episode 2 – “Jersey Boss”

Posted in JERSEYLICIOUS with tags , on September 12, 2010 by stylebymeli

I am back to blogging again!  I finally have a few days off to myself and just caught the second episode of “Jerseylicious.”  Here is a recap for all the “Jerseylicious” fans out there!

In the beginning of the episode, Anthony announces that he will be leaving the Gatsby because his salon will be up and running and it’s hard to balance with his family life.

Gayle is extremely upset due to the fact that her daughter Christy will be leaving for maternity shortly and she was hoping to promote Anthony as a manager to fill Christy’s place.  Since he makes it very clear that he does not want the position, Gayle is forced to pick another candidate.

Once the Gatsby stylists know it’s open, they all begin to suck up to Christy, hoping she will give one of them the management position.  Tension arrises when Olivia expresses interest and Alexa is mad at her because if she becomes manager, there will be less time for her to work for Glam Fairy.  Olivia has trouble balancing her responsibilities given by both Gayle and Alexa so she is very torn as to what to do.

I absolutely LOVE this outfit on Christy!

Another element of the episode is Alexa’s new love interest, Carmen.  She has a dinner party at her home and invites a few of her Gatsby co-workers along with Carmen.  He is not only late, but the last to show up leaving Alexa very upset.  She makes this very obvious during their awkward dinner get-together.

By the end of the episode, Gayle gives Anthony an offer he can’t refuse and ends up hiring him as the manager along with two receptionists (one older, one younger girl named Veronica who instants catches Fillipo’s eye).

NEW “Jerseylicious” Season 2 Premiere with Sneak Preview

Posted in JERSEYLICIOUS with tags , , on September 6, 2010 by stylebymeli

So the new season of ‘Jerseylicious’ premiered last night and I didn’t get a chance to catch the rerun until this morning.

I think this season is going to be filled with even more drama with extra hair extensions and smokey eyes of course!  ;)

This was the episode that I got to attend the carnival themed party at the Gatsby.  I was doing my makeup while watching it (so it was more in the background) and didn’t get a chance to see if I could find myself in the background but I’m sure I’m there somewhere!

Here is a preview of ‘Jerseylicious’ Season 2…ENJOY!

“Jerseylicious” Filmed at the Gatsby Today!

Posted in JERSEYLICIOUS on June 14, 2010 by stylebymeli

As many people may already know, “Jerseylicious” is filming a second season with 20 episodes!  (The first season was only 8).  They began filming today and will be filming all the way until October with the first episode to air around Labor Day.

They were filming a party scene today that consisted of beach volleyball, spray tanning, caricatures, games, and free food.  I was able to make it to the event today (it was kind of spontaneous of me; I didn’t plan on going until this morning!) and had a great time!  The weather looked overcast but ended up being a beautiful day.

Although I was just an extra like everyone else, a lot of people had recognized me from the first episode as makeup artist, “Ashley”. It was nice to share my experience on the show and to network with other people in the field.  Besides mingling, I also got a caricature made for me.

It was also fun to reunite with the cast in which I saw Gigi, Tracy, Anthony, and of course Gayle and Christy (she is pregnant..how exciting!).  Everyone looked great!!  Apparently Alexa and Olivia were going to make it to the event but not until much later so I never got a chance to see them.

Here is a photo of some Jerseylicious girls! ;)

Be sure to read about my experience as guest make-up artist “Ashley” on the first episode of Jerseylicious!

Some of You May Know Me as “Ashley” From Jerseylicous

Posted in JERSEYLICIOUS on April 4, 2010 by stylebymeli

Exactly two weeks ago, the first episode of  a new reality show called, “Jerseylicious” premiered on the Style Network.

The show takes place primarily at The Gatsby Salon in Green Brook, New Jersey.  It features a cast of hairstylists and make-up artists that work at the salon along with all the crazy drama that lies there.

I’m excited to share my experience as “Ashley” on the show and to answer some frequently asked questions that I have been getting on a regular basis.

There’s a girl on the new reality show, “Jerseylicious” that is also a make-up artist and looks just like you, except her name is Ashley…is that you?

First and foremost, YES everyone…that’s me!

Okay, so why did your name change to Ashley?

I literally got casted two days before they started filming the first episode.  Although you watch the show and it all flows as one continous day or scene of events, things are very much filmed out of sequence and this show was no exception.  I never realized this but after experiencing this, I see that things are not always filmed in order.

The day I got to the salon to film my scenes, they explained that they already shot a scene (the part where the owner and the daughter are talking in the office after the interviews and they’re like, “There’s something special about Ashley”) where they threw the name Ashley as the girl applying for the other make-up artist position so I’m now Ashley on the show.  It was too late for them to go back and re-film that scene so I had to just go with the flow.

Did you know going into the show that you were not getting the job?

YES, don’t worry people…I was well aware of the scenario and the character I had to play.  It’s funny because in real life, I am familiar with the salon being that it’s only a town away and I’ve also done a bride’s make-up at the salon BEFORE the renovation back in February of 2008!

Another ironic fact, I’ve actually done make-up on the client they gave me on the show!  We recognized each other right away and were so excited to experience that scene together!

How did you even get on the show then?

I know The Glam Fairy in real life and she had mentioned that she was one of the main characters of the reality show “Jerseylicious.”  She told me that they were in need of extras for the first episode and asked if I was interested at all.  I thought it would a cool experience so she gave me the phone number of the casting director.

After a never ending game of phone tag, we finally spoke on the phone and she interviewed me to see how I can be a part of the show.  Once she found out I am also a professional make-up artist, she asked if I could bring my make-up kit to the set and do a make-up scene up against the main character.

The make-up you did looked amazing, why didn’t you get the job?

I’ve gotten so many compliments on the make-up I did on the show and I’m so thankful for all the kind words and support.  As mentioned, I was assigned to play this character and I’m pretty much a glorified extra that got to do a make-up scene on national TV.  It’s crazy to think how many people got to see me on TV!

Do you get recognized in public?

Surprisingly, YESSS!!!  It’s really shocking because I’m barely on the show, I’m on it for no more than 10 minutes.

Plus, I had NO IDEA going into this how much exposure this show was going to get.  I mean I realize it’s national TV but still.  I guess with the whole Jersey Shore phenomenon, there’s now this obsession with Jersey.

The very next day after this aired, I went into work and 3 random people went up to me and said they saw me on TV.

The best is when I was walking back to work after my lunch break, this woman goes, “OMG ASHLEY?!?!”  I laughed and said, “Yes…my name is Melissa actually…good to meet you!  Oh and I am a make-up artist in real life.”

She then went on to share, “I woke up to your face on TV this morning!  I Tivoed the show and watched it this morning and still have your face fresh in my mind.  I recognized you right away!”  Then she stalked me back to my work with a load of questions regarding the show.  (HOW FUNNY IS THAT?!?!)

People will either approach me in one of two ways…

“You look like this girl I just saw on TV….”

OR

“Hey, you’re Ashley from Jerseylicious!!”

I’m still amazed by it!

Will you be in any upcoming episodes?

Nope, I’m just featured in the very first episode.

As much as I’d like to say there’s a surprise twist where I make another appearance on the show, that’s it folks! :)

Have you been watching the show?

Of course!  I like to stay Jerseylicious like that! :-p

I don’t always get to see it live so I either DVR it or just catch it at a later time since the reruns are repeated throughout the week.  It’s especially cool to watch since I got to meet all the people from the show.

Thanks for watching everyone!  Hope everyone enjoyed my moment of fame! Don’t forget to stay Jerseylicious!  8-)
