Hey everyone, I apologize for the lack of blog posts this past week.  It was an extremely busy week filled with appointments, pink cupcakes with chocolate chips & sprinkles, and lots of makeup of course! ;)

I threw my first makeup launch party at the salon where I showcased my first makeup collection (using GIELLA custom blend cosmetics) and here I will share some photos from the three day event!

Fall 2011 Collection:  ”Flashback to Midnight”

I created five lipsticks, five lip glosses, and three nail polishes. My inspiration behind the names and shades were by the 1970's disco era.

Makeup Event Day 1:

For the opening day, I brought home-made cupcakes with pink icing, sprinkles, and chocolate chips! Yum!

Here is a photo with the beautiful GIELLA, the creator of GIELLA custom blend cosmetics. She came to the opening day of the event to assist me with makeup demos.

Makeup Event Day #2:

Here is a photo with one of my childhood best friends. I also thought this was a great photo to share since I did not share an outfit post last week. FYI, I am wearing a Nanette Lepore silk pink top (from my most recent trip to Beacon's Closet), Guess black denim mini skirt (also featured in my previous outfit post), and Aldo nude peep toe wedges with ankle strap.

The amazingly talented Hayat Gul came to the event where did henna designs for clients. You can check out her fabulous designs at: http://www.hayatgul.com

Makeup Event Day #3:

Here I am doing a makeup application on Rebecca, who also happens to be a loyal blog reader! (THANK YOU AGAIN for coming out Rebecca! It was wonderful to see you and your mom)! :)

Here is a photo of me with Jackie, one of my clients after completing her makeup.

[Hope you enjoyed all the photos!]

August Giveaway Alert, More Home Decor, and a New Season of Project Runway

Posted in GIELLA CUSTOM BLEND COSMETICS, GIVEAWAY WINNER ANNOUCEMENTS, GIVEAWAYS, HOME DECOR, MELI'S FAB FINDS, STYLE BY MELI GIVEAWAYS on August 3, 2011 by stylebymeli

Welcome back everyone and cheers to the beginning of a new month.  This is a very busy month for me so I don’t know how often I’ll be able to blog, but I can promise you that I am dedicated to providing new material and sharing my love for style/makeup with the free time that I have!  Thanks for your consistent loyalty and if you’re new, a warm welcome as always!

This weekend, I will be throwing my first makeup launch party featuring a fall collection I created myself.  By that I mean, I created the shades (using GIELLA custom blend cosmetics) and came up with the names for each product.  It will feature lip glosses, lipsticks, and nail polishes.  I’m very excited to share the collection and will be posting photos from the event along with the products I created!  Very exciting!

I don’t have any new features this month, although I will be sharing more blogs regarding home decor (as this is another passion of mine) and possibly more about health/fitness (as I’m really into this too and this goes hand-in-hand with beauty in my opinion).

Speaking of home decor, I wanted to share this beautiful piece I picked up at HomeGoods yesterday for my bedroom:

New home decor for my bedroom

I have the perfect spot for this to go too and a space I’ve been waiting to fill for quite some time, was just waiting on the right piece!  She kind of looks like me too!  Arched brows, full lips, almond eyes, side swept bangs…the only difference is, I never throw my hair up like that.  I guess for the right occasion I would!

Also, for all you Project Runway fans out there…a new season officially started last week and sadly, I have yet to watch it!  I haven’t had the free time to watch, but when I do, I plan on blogging about it every week!

Sneak Peek of My Fall 2011 Makeup Collection Created Using GIELLA custom blend cosmetics!

Fall 2011 lip glosses I created using GIELLA custom blend cosmetics

I’m super excited to announce that I am working on my first makeup collection (meaning I create my very own shades) for the upcoming fall season.  It will consist of lip glosses, lipsticks, and nail polishes.

I’m almost done with the collection and thought it would be cool to share what the lip glosses look like.  I will eventually share the entire collection with everyone and if anyone is interested in making a purchase, please do not hesitate to contact me directly!

Next week, I am also throwing a makeup launch party at the salon I work for to showcase my collection.  I kind of see it as an art exhibit, but in this case, a makeup exhibit?!  (Cool, no?!)  If you’re in the NJ area and want the party details, please also message me! :)

Inspiration:  In case you are wondering what my inspiration was behind my choice in colors and the names behind them, I was inspired by the 1970′s as I feel that is the direction fashion is moving right now.

What I love most about that decade is the whole disco scene, which served as inspiration behind the names of the products.  There was actually a phase in my life where I was heavily into the music (while everyone in high school were buying Britney Spears CD’s, I was going out and buying disco’s greatest hits, LOL…funny, but very true).

In my opinion, every good color story should be eclectic and feature a little of everything.  It should cater to the people that like to keep it natural in the daytime, but maybe they’re an inner diva that loves to go out in the evenings.  Both aspects need to be expressed differently and I wanted to provide colors that gave people the freedom to express themselves in various ways.

“Love 2 Love u Baby”- Creamy mid-tone pink with slight blue undertone.  This has a nice color payoff with a slight shimmer.  I think this is a great go-to color as you can just throw it on and walk out the door!

“Stuck in Studio 54″ - Sheer violet gloss with lots of shine and glittery goodness!  Although it can easily be worn by itself, this looks GREAT over anything as it just enhances the shine and gives you that extra pop!

“Kiss After Dark” - Mauve with slight plum/brown undertone and soft shimmer.  Great daytime color!  Personally, I love these types of colors, especially for the daytime.  This is actually one of my favorites from the collection.

“You Foxy Little Thing, You!” - Magenta rose pink with lots of glitter for a high dimension shine.  This is definitely the showstopper of the collection right here.  ANYONE can pull this off and it’s just incredibly beautiful to look at in the tube.  I can’t get over how fabulous this turned out!

“Can you [Gold] Dig It?” – Creamy nude with gold undertone.  I find there are very few nude colors out there that have a gold in it and thought this was essential for a 70′s inspired collection.  Great for the daytime and even better to wear in the evening paired with a heavily smoked out eye!

Hope you like what you’re seeing so far…there is more to come! ;)  Be sure to stay tuned!

[Look at Meli's Makeup]: Brown Shadows with Touch of Coral + Soft Cheeks + Mauve Lips

Posted in BLUSH, EYE MAKEUP, FACE, FALSE EYE LASHES, GIELLA (CREATED BY MELI), GIELLA CUSTOM BLEND COSMETICS, LIPGLOSSES, LIPS, LIPS - LIPSTICKS, LOOK AT MELI'S MAKEUP, MAC MAKE-UP, MAKE-UP, PRODUCTS I LOVE, SHOPPING on July 14, 2011 by stylebymeli

I was wearing this look in the daytime, just running errands and such.

For this look, I tried to use some products that I had not really used in awhile and will continue to do this during these makeup posts to keep it different and to challenge myself to really switch it up (which you will get personal access to each week in terms of the products used and any additional techniques).  I also wanted to incorporate some of the colors to coordinate the shades in the print.

Eyes:  Started out with a semi-pinkish coral lid with a touch of gold and warmed the look with some brown eye liner (bottom).

*  MAC “Pink Bronze” pigment – lid
*  MAC “Woodwinked” – inner corner, applied very softly (didn’t really show up much in the photo but it’s a bronze gold)
*  MAC “Solar White” – brow highlight
*  MAC “Ground Brown” – outer corner (MAC PRO only shade..it’s a rich deep chocolate brown matte)

[Ardell lashes complete the final look, MAC "Teddy" eye kohl AND "Graphblack" bottom eye liner, MAC "Rapidblack" top eye liner]

MAKEUP TECHNIQUE:  I tend to go really heavy with my bottom liner (in black).  That’s just the way I like it!  However, for this look, I decided to do something a little different.  I first layered a brown (smoked it a little, meaning smudged it under the waterline) and THEN added a thin, but more defined line (rather than smudged) over top of it using MAC “Graphblack”.  This creates more DEPTH by layering a light color first, kind of as a back shadow to the black (if that makes sense?).  My eyes seem softer by doing this, but there is still definition.

FYI I'm wearing my new Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer in "Bisque" (as my foundation)...I absolutely LOVE the way it makes my skin look. I have NOT been this impressed with a foundation (or tinted moisturizer I should say) in a really long time!

Cheeks:  Although my cheeks look very peach, I actually was using a pink blush…(maybe it turned out that way because the brush had some coral from previous use).

*  MAC “Prism”

Lips:  I went with a glossy plum mauve color.

*  MAC “Cream O’ Spice” creamstick lip liner (THIS IS A STAPLE FOR ME BTW)

*  GIELLA custom blend cosmetics “Accidental Attraction” lipstick

[This lipstick I created myself, ACCIDENTALLY!

I was re-creating a formula of mine and misread one of the pigments I used so it turned into this mauve-plum shade.  I never wear plums, but this one I like because it's not too plum and contrasts nicely against my skin.  It really goes with the top I am wearing too as there is purple in it).

Regarding the name of the lipstick (in case you're wondering...)

I really try to put a lot of thought when I create a lipstick shade and like to come up with clever names.  "Accidental Attraction" came to my mind because I did NOT create this specific shade on purpose, but yet I have a deep attraction towards it.  However, I also gave it this name to refer to a situation when you accidentally fall for someone that you know you shouldn't and it just kind of happens "accidentally"...beyond your control.  (I think this is something many people can relate to).  So this shade actually has a double meaning! ;)

(PS- Keep in mind, anything that is GIELLA, I can sell to you!  Just contact me directly).

*  MAC "Wildly" plushglass

[Feel free to comment on the look or if you have any questions regarding the products I used, THANKS!]

Attention Brides: Custom Made Makeup Available for Your Special Day! (Thanks to GIELLA custom blend cosmetics)!

I have shared with everyone that I now create my own makeup using GIELLA custom blend cosmetics, an exclusive luxury cosmetic line that allows for any color personally designed just for you!  (I still cannot get over how amazing the concept is behind all this)!  If you’re still not convinced, I also want to mention that Kim Kardashian uses GIELLA custom blend cosmetics!  Her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic has also created a special sheer highlighting powder for GIELLA called, “EYE M GLAM.”

Over the weekend, I created a lipstick and lipgloss for one of my brides that we used on the day of the wedding and she absolutely loved it!  Days before the wedding, she wrote me an e-mail describing exactly the type of color she was looking for, which allowed for me to design the perfect lip products for her!  She specifically wrote, “And, definitely a plum – mauve lipstick (more purple than brown) would be great.”  This is what I came up with…

GIELLA custom blend cosmetics for brides

I created a stunning shimmery plum lipgloss that I named, "Magic Carpet Ride" and a plum mauve lipsticked named, "Mauvelous, Darling." Keep in mind that I can design the PERFECT lip combination for the day of your wedding!

I always find that the hardest thing to determine during a bridal trial is the lip color.  I don’t know why, one would think it would be the eye makeup or face makeup, but always the lip color.  I think this is because this is the last finishing touch of the final look that will make or break the makeup.

The beauty behind using GIELLA custom blend cosmetics is that I can really create ANY color and tweak it to perfection!  I also can color match anything that is discontinued and can no longer be found!

Be sure to book your makeup trial and learn more about the custom blended creations I can make JUST FOR YOU!  (I also can design eye liner pencils, lip pencils, loose eye shadows, foundations, bronzers, blushes, and nail polishes!)

Here is my lovely bride wearing the GIELLA lipstick and lipgloss I created for her!

For this bridal look, I created an overall natural look with a slight dewiness to the skin and soft eyes with a punch of plum shadow on the outer corners to coordinate with the mauve plum lips.

PS- If you have come across this blog and not from the NJ area, please do not hesitate to contact me directly regarding how to get a custom blended product made which I can ship to you directly.  If you have a discontinued cosmetic, these products (or a swatch of it) can be shipped to me at my makeup studio and I can create a match!
