[Outfit Post] with Bright Orange Cami, Black Cropped Vest, and Vintage Baby Pink Denim Shorts…A Casual Summer Look

Happy summer!  I wanted to share a summer look I created last week.  Although the look itself is very simple with easy layering pieces, the color combination is striking!

About This Outfit:

[The Outfit]:  I am wearing an orange cami from Express.  I have a ton of the Express camis that I typically wear to the gym, but I love the color of this one so much that this is a part of my regular wardrobe, NOT my fitness attire!  (Although, I’d have no problem hitting the gym in bright orange)!

The vest is by Yoana Baraschi.  I have definitely featured this piece in previous outfit posts being that it is so versatile and easy to style.  I love the cut of the vest along with the unique edging.

The baby pink denim shorts are Liz Claiborne.  (Don’t laugh)!!  These are actually high waisted, but I chose to layer the cami over the waistline in this look.  My other option when styling these would be to tuck the shirt into the shorts so you can see the horizontal line created at the waist.  I picked these up at a local consignment store and fell in love with them the moment I tried them on in the fitting room.  I think it’s very safe to assume that the shorts are vintage, 80′s?  Perhaps, 90′s?  I have no idea, but regardless, they are totally rockable in 2012!  (Hmm, I think I just made up a word).

The peep toe heels are Gucci.  I wear these a lot as you can see!  I always get a ton of compliments on them too no matter how I style these!

[Where to wear this outfit]:  This is a casual look for me.  The heels dress it up a bit but ultimately, I would still classify this as a daytime look.

[Stylish Notes]:

-  I’m absolutely in love with this color combination.   Initially, I had styled the bright orange with the light pink shorts and thought that in itself was striking as they looked like summery creamsickle colors when paired together, but I wanted to step it up even more so I decided to then incorporate a splash of black by adding the vest and the heels.  Why?!  High contrast = visual captivation!

-  Being that the shorts are high waisted, visually, they make the waist look even smaller by cinching the waist even more.  These shorts happen to fit perfectly, slightly snug but not suffocating.  I wouldn’t buy them if they were too snug for comfort!

- It’s interesting to find that orange is the “it” color this season as it turns out that all my orange pieces I purchased a year ago.  I loved it then as much as I do now.  It’s just great to be ahead of the styling curve!

I happen to love the makeup I wore that day. Bright peachy cheeks with a semi-bright pink lip. That’s my signature makeup style the majority of the time and it especially works well in the summer and with this outfit.

[Style Vault] – Hot Pink Satin Clutch

Posted in CONSIGNMENT STORES, FASHION, HANDBAGS, MELI'S FAB FINDS, MELI'S STYLE VAULT, SHOPPING on May 19, 2012 by stylebymeli

I was ecstatic to discover this hot pink clutch at a local consignment shop and was immediately drawn in by the intensity of the color.  It’s seriously the perfect bright pink!  Although it is meant to be used as an evening bag, I can definitely find ways to incorporate this for more casual going out purposes.

It appears to be vintage, but still in immaculate condition.  It also has a thin gold chain strap which gives me a styling alternative besides using it as a clutch.

[Style Vault] – Rhinestone and Chain Statement Necklace

Posted in CONSIGNMENT STORES, FASHION, JEWELRY, MELI'S FAB FINDS, MELI'S STYLE VAULT, SHOPPING on May 10, 2012 by stylebymeli

I just purchased this necklace a couple weeks ago from a local consignment boutique in my area.  I must have spotted it like a mile away (how can one not?).  I gravitated to it in an instant because of its intricate design and eye-catching bling-ing effect.  I have always said, “It don’t mean a thing, if it ain’t got that bling!”

The necklace is just so fabulously flashy and beautiful to look at!  I have never seen anything like it, which is why there was no doubt in mind that this needed a good home…(in my closet)! ;)

When I went ahead to purchase it, I actually said to the owner, “I’m not quite sure how I’m going to wear this, but I know I’ll find a way to make this work!”

I like fashion pieces that not only make a statement, but also leave me a little perplexed and challenge me to find various ways of styling it.

I have worn this necklace once so far with a simple mainly all black outfit and look forward to featuring this in a future [Outfit Post].

[Outfit Post] with a Leopard Print Bustier, Black Dress, Bold Belt, and Jeffrey Campbell Gold Unicorn Heels…A Flashy Fun Look

Posted in BELTS, CONSIGNMENT STORES, DRESSES, FASHION, MELI'S FAB FINDS, OUTFIT POST with tags , , , , , , , on January 7, 2012 by stylebymeli

I’m happy to post my first outfit post of the year!  I actually haven’t officially worn this out yet, you guys are seeing it before anyone else does!  After I post this, going to get ready to actually leave the house wearing this.  I’m going out to celebrate a friend’s birthday tonight so I wanted to dress up for the occasion!  Enjoy loves!

About This Outfit:

[The Outfit]:  I am wearing a black Guess mini sweater dress.  It actually has straps, but I tucked them underneath as I wanted it to look strapless.

The next layer is a Guess animal print bustier with black lace detailing towards the top.  If it didn’t have the black lace styling detail, I wouldn’t have been as inclined to buy it.  It’s funny how the little things are always what count most!

The wide black belt with gold bling at the center is a consignment store find.  I have been obsessed with this belt for many years now.  I don’t wear it all the time, but when I do, it really completes the look.

The shoes are Jeffrey Campbell.  I wore these in my last outfit post, so they should look familiar! ;)

[Where to wear this outfit]:  If you really want to know exactly, I’m heading off to Perle in New Brunswick tonight in this outfit.

[Stylish Notes]:

-  A lot of layering took place to create this look and I believe that great stylists are masters at effortlessly layering pieces to achieve one extraordinary final look.  Looking at this from afar, it looks like a one piece outfit, no?

[Styling Confession]:   Believe it or not, this is the first time in my life that I’m wearing sheer black tights (from Express).  For the longest time, I just wasn’t a huge fan of the idea.  However, with this look, I felt that opaque black tights would make the outfit appear “too black” and there was a need for the sheer tights.  I must admit, I’m totally digging them!

 - The wide belt at the center gives the illusion that I’m wearing a high-waisted skirt.  As you can see, the horizontal lines cut across the body in all the right places.

A closer look at the complete outfit. (Sorry it's a little blurry, but you get the idea).

In terms of makeup, I'm wearing a soft light bronze lip, brighter cheeks, and softer eye makeup.

[Outfit Post] With Striped Aqua Cami + Cropped Sweater + Metallic Gold Booties…A Casual Cool Fall Look

Posted in CONSIGNMENT STORES, FASHION, OUTFIT POST, SHOES with tags , , , , on October 24, 2011 by stylebymeli

This is an outfit I actually put together a few days ago.  I really like the cool casualness of this look.  It’s stylish in a more effortless way.  It captures visual interest without being too over dramatic.

My personal style is eclectic and I enjoy sharing different view points of how I express myself through fashion.  Enjoy lovers!

About This Outfit:

[The Outfit]:  I am wearing a white and aqua striped tunic cami from Abercrombie and Fitch.  I do NOT shop there in all honesty (never really got too into the whole over-priced preppy look in my youth either); HOWEVER, I found this piece from a local consignment store and it’s been a wardrobe staple since the summer.  I probably won’t get to wear it too much in the fall/winter months but you can see that I’m still wearing it in October!

The white cropped sweater is from The Limited.  I am completely in love with this sweater.  I love where the bottom hits the body (right at my waist), the 3/4 sleeve, and openness.  The texture is also very soft and cozy.

The metallic gold rusched booties are from Aldo and I purchased these at least three years ago I believe.  I honestly only get to wear these a handful of times each season.  Even though they seem like they’d go with everything, they are semi-dramatic so I have to be careful as to how I style these without OVER-styling.  It works with this look because it’s pretty casual overall and the booties add just a small dose of drama.

The necklace is from Guess, purchased exactly a year ago at the Guess store in Atlantic City.  Besides Forever 21, I do like to shop at Guess for jewelry.

[Where to wear this outfit]:  This was a daytime look.  This is pretty casual for me but it works because of the extra styling details (mainly the accessories and metallic booties).

[Stylish Notes]:

-  Understanding basic layering is crucial to creating the perfect outfit.  In order to get it right, you have to really know your assets (everyone has them!!) and understand how to enhance them through clothing.

 - One of my biggest styling pet peeves is ill-fitted clothing.  Most of my clothing happens to be skin tight because I know this works for my shape.  My silhouette is overall, fairly proportioned, so wearing fitted clothing enhances my natural shape.

-  Don’t be afraid to wear “summer” colors in the fall.  The cami is definitely more of a summer piece but you can see that with good styling, you can easily work it into your fall wardrobe.  (I don’t like to follow color rules in fashion).

-  As I had mentioned, the boots are a few years old and even though I don’t wear them all the time, it was still a great fashion investment because you never know when they will complete an outfit!  I see myself keeping these boots for years to come.

I can't get over how perfect the layering is in this outfit. Visually, the proportions created here are just dead on. The contrasts are also visually appealing.

Here you can get a closer look at the necklace. I like the mix between gold and silver metals in this piece. I love the tassels too of course!
