A Look at Bridal Makeup by Meli – New Website Launch

Posted in BRIDAL MAKE-UP, MAKE-UP, MORE ABOUT MELI, STYLE BY MELI UPDATES on August 10, 2012 by stylebymeli

I am happy to announce that I just recently launched a website (I designed this all by myself!) strictly for my bridal clients called, “Bridal Makeup by Meli.”  Besides a bridal makeup video look book, I have testimonials that were written about me on The Knot.

I apologize for not updating this blog as much recently, I have been juggling a few projects all at one time including the the completion of this website which I’m happy to share with everyone!

PS – I’m also really sorry about the random youtube advertisements that are popping up on my blog pages.  I’m trying to fix the problem and haven’t figured it out just yet.

[Thanks for checking out my new website!]

Life is Pretty Glamourous…

This was taken this past weekend. Although there isn't much light in the photo, I still think it's a great capture (I like the shadows, it's more artistic).

I’ve been expressing in recent blogs that I have been pretty busy and thought it would be nice to share a ‘day in the life’ post.  This was taken on Friday.  I’m just completing some finishing touches before Alexis (the bride) gets photographed professionally.

It’s truly such an honor to be a part of a bride’s special day as for many women, it’s not only the most photographed day of her life, it’s also considered to be one of the best days of her life filled with cherished memories.  I love to design the perfect bridal look for my clients that makes her feel and look her most beautiful self!  :)

That evening I attended an invite-only party thrown by Teresa Guidice from “The Housewives of New Jersey.”  Apparently it was getting filmed for the upcoming season and will be featured in a future episode.  (Ironically, I don’t follow the show)!  It was held at “Brotherhood’s Winery” in Washingtonville, NY.

With Teresa Guidice and my friend Ally...what a fabulous night!

Today (Sunday), I got a chance to go into the city and check out Beacon’s Closet in Manhattan.  They now have a Manhattan location that opened about a month ago.  If you’re obsessed with fashion the way I am, chances are you’re going to love this place!  I will be writing a review of this location along with sharing my fashion purchases (I found some AMAZING pieces) in an upcoming post this week.  Stay tuned! ;)

Two Beautiful Brides and a Special Thank You

Posted in BRIDAL MAKE-UP, EVENTS, EYE MAKEUP, MAKE-UP on August 14, 2011 by stylebymeli

It’s been a very busy month with very little time to blog, but I wanted to take the time to share some photos of makeup I did this past weekend for two of my brides.  They both turned out lovely, take a look!

Here is a close-up on the eye makeup. I started with a soft champagne shimmer on the lid and used a brown/plum color on the corners. There is also a white shimmery shadow in the inner corners.

Beautiful! I love the entire look, the hair and makeup coordinate perfectly!

We actually didn't do a trial in advance, so I created this look on the day of the wedding. I have done Carmella's makeup for previous weddings she has attended over the years, so she knew she could trust my level of artistry to create the ultimate bridal look!

I wanted to capture a soft, natural look as I know this is my client's style. It's really important as a makeup artist to understand a person's style in order to translate the way the makeup should look.

And lastly, a huge THANK YOU to Nicole Soda for assisting me this past Friday!  I had a wedding party of thirteen people that needed makeup services and I could not have asked for a more perfect assistant!  Whether I needed a product pulled for me on the spot or a brush cleaned, Nicole was on point the entire time.

Here is my makeup assistant and aspiring makeup artist Nicole!

THANK YOU again Nicole for everything!

You are wonderful and I am beyond gracious for all your help with the wedding!

I look forward to having you assist me for more events and helping you grow as an artist in any way I can.

It is great to serve as your inspiration and refreshing to work with someone with such a passion for makeup artistry.

Attention Brides: Custom Made Makeup Available for Your Special Day! (Thanks to GIELLA custom blend cosmetics)!

I have shared with everyone that I now create my own makeup using GIELLA custom blend cosmetics, an exclusive luxury cosmetic line that allows for any color personally designed just for you!  (I still cannot get over how amazing the concept is behind all this)!  If you’re still not convinced, I also want to mention that Kim Kardashian uses GIELLA custom blend cosmetics!  Her makeup artist Mario Dedivanovic has also created a special sheer highlighting powder for GIELLA called, “EYE M GLAM.”

Over the weekend, I created a lipstick and lipgloss for one of my brides that we used on the day of the wedding and she absolutely loved it!  Days before the wedding, she wrote me an e-mail describing exactly the type of color she was looking for, which allowed for me to design the perfect lip products for her!  She specifically wrote, “And, definitely a plum – mauve lipstick (more purple than brown) would be great.”  This is what I came up with…

GIELLA custom blend cosmetics for brides

I created a stunning shimmery plum lipgloss that I named, "Magic Carpet Ride" and a plum mauve lipsticked named, "Mauvelous, Darling." Keep in mind that I can design the PERFECT lip combination for the day of your wedding!

I always find that the hardest thing to determine during a bridal trial is the lip color.  I don’t know why, one would think it would be the eye makeup or face makeup, but always the lip color.  I think this is because this is the last finishing touch of the final look that will make or break the makeup.

The beauty behind using GIELLA custom blend cosmetics is that I can really create ANY color and tweak it to perfection!  I also can color match anything that is discontinued and can no longer be found!

Be sure to book your makeup trial and learn more about the custom blended creations I can make JUST FOR YOU!  (I also can design eye liner pencils, lip pencils, loose eye shadows, foundations, bronzers, blushes, and nail polishes!)

Here is my lovely bride wearing the GIELLA lipstick and lipgloss I created for her!

For this bridal look, I created an overall natural look with a slight dewiness to the skin and soft eyes with a punch of plum shadow on the outer corners to coordinate with the mauve plum lips.

PS- If you have come across this blog and not from the NJ area, please do not hesitate to contact me directly regarding how to get a custom blended product made which I can ship to you directly.  If you have a discontinued cosmetic, these products (or a swatch of it) can be shipped to me at my makeup studio and I can create a match!

The Royal Wedding…A Day in History to Remember…and Why Kate Middleton’s Sister Pippa is also Wearing White…

Kate Middleton's sister Pippa wearing white makes headlines in the USA

Today was a very special day in the U.K. and around the world, as millions of viewers watched the wedding ceremony of Prince William and Kate Middleton (“Princess Kate” by the public, but formally known as Princess William of Wales).

I personally think Princess Kate looked ultra elegant and classy while there were many critics complaining that her dress was too simple and she could have chosen something a little more extravagant.  However, I honestly respect her choice and think this is what best suits HER.  If you observe her style, she is not one to dress extravagantly.  She always carries herself with elegance and why should her wedding day be any different?!

Also, I would like to add that her makeup was phenomenal and of course I was curious as to who did it, which a friend had found out she apparently did it herself!  I’m even more impressed if this is the truth as the makeup looked flawless!

Now moving onto what is making a lot of headlines in the USA, not just Kate Middleton’s dress selection, but also her sister Pippa Middleton, who happens to be wearing a white dress.  As we know in American culture, it is not okay to wear white to a wedding (it’s kind of a silly style rule if you ask me).

HOWEVER, in the U.K., it’s actually seen as GOOD LUCK to wear white and sort of resemble the bride and groom to ward off evil spirits.  How interesting!  So I hope this ends any sort of confusion regarding Pippa’s choice in wearing white!
