2012 Oscars Best Dressed List – Who’s Style Captured My Eye and My Top 3 Favorites Revealed

The 84th Annual Academy Awards was held in Los Angeles this past Sunday and although I was not home to physically watch it live (and we all know I couldn’t care less, I just want to see what everyone is wearing!), I did get a chance to fashion scope the big night to see who really shined, leaving the best stylish impressions of the evening.

[FYI: In case you are wondering how I make my decisions, I'm not just judging on the dress itself, but also the actual FIT of the dress and other styling elements that complete the final look (hair, makeup, etc).  I cannot stress enough that a dress could be exceptionally beautiful, but if it does not flatter the client, it won't make my best dressed list!  At the end of the day, I'm all about visual aesthetics!]

Stacy Keibler in Marchesa - This was by far the most STUNNING look of the evening. The silhouette is not only unique but exquisitely beautiful to look at. The draping and proportions are simply perfect. I also love the metallic gold fabric, it looks like liquid gold spun onto her body. Seriously, this is breathtaking! I like her soft makeup and hair to the side. The earrings and clutch add a nice stylish touch to complete the look.

Jennifer Lopez in Zuhair Murad - This dress is not only glamourous but also very intriguing. There are a lot of styling elements going on at one time but they all compliment each other so nicely. I love how this dress is tasteful and still incredibly sexy. I love anything with cut-outs at the shoulders and the vertical stripes are hypnotizing. Jennifer Lopez can do no wrong in my book! She always gets it right and knows how to accentuate her curves in all the right places.

Angelina Jolie in Atelier Versace - Isn't it amazing how something as simple as a little black dress can still manage to make such a high styling impact? Let me tell you why this works. For one, there is a high contrast between the black against her super fair skin. Then the dramatically high slit exposing her leg and the draping effect against the neckline contrasted against her small waist. There are a lot of visual contrasts and this is what makes this eye catching and remarkably stylish. Her bold red lips also make a statement and ultimately complete the final look.

2012 Golden Globes Fashion – Who was Dressed to Impress? A Look at Who Made My Top 5 Best Dressed List

Although I did not get a chance to fully watch the Golden Globes this year (I had it on and tuned in randomly throughout the evening), we all know that I honestly only care about the fashion anyhow.  Here is a look at my favorite looks of the evening (in no particular order):

Salma Hayek in Gucci - She seriously can do no wrong (her body is fabulous)! I love this dress on her, it's glamourous and interesting.

Nicole Kidman in Versace - She looks absolutely RAVISHING! The dress is modern and incredibly chic. I love all the styling details from the neckline to the embellishments, to the silhouette. Beautiful!!!

Sofia Vergara in Vera Wang - I can't get over how stunning this is. The color is not something I'd normally gravitate to but it's unique and I like it on her. She also has an amazing figure, so she can really get away with anything. I also like the soft makeup and that she kept her hair down. This is truly styled perfectly including the accessories.

Nicole Richie in Julien Macdonald - I just LOVE this look on Nicole Richie. She is just glowing. This is also styled impeccably from head to toe. There's nothing I would change.

Elle Macpherson in Zac Posen - This is a real showstopper. She looks amazing in this gown, I love all the styling elements of the dress. (In terms of the styling, not a huge fan in the choice of bracelets, but otherwise, I love this look!)

2011 Golden Globes – My Fashion Picks for Best Dressed

Tonight was the 68th Annual Golden Globes and it’s obvious that I am not here to blog about the nominations, nor the winners.  I’m here to talk about the fashion and who really got my attention–stylishly speaking.

Jennifer Lopez seriously can do NO WRONG in my fashion book. This is not only jaw-dropping stunning, I have also not seen anything like this dress before, which gives her extra wow-factor!  I love the draping and the embellishments against the sheer fabric of the beaded overlay.  She looks like a style goddess, then again, when does she not look like a style goddess!?!

Jennifer Lopez (in Zuhair Murad)- Golden Globes 2011

I’ll be honest, I think Ann Hathaway’s style is hit or miss.  If she didn’t have a stylist, I highly doubt she’d have the know-how to put together these looks herself. She very often is a plain jane, which doesn’t typically peak my fashion interest; however, she really looked beautiful tonight!  This dress fit like a glove and looked like liquid gold on her body! I love when the back is exposed, especially when the whole body is covered up. Otherwise, it would have been kind of boring and lack visual interest.

Ann Hathaway (in Armani Prive) - Golden Globes 2011

WOW, holy hotness! I love everything about this dress and January Jones really rocked it!  (Let’s be honest ladies, this is NOT something anyone can just throw on so effortlessly!) The color is bold along with the actual style of the dress being a total fashion statement in itself.  She looks GREAT!  My only critique would be to change the lipstick color, I am not a fan of the matching red lips to the dress (she looks great in it, but it’s a little too predictable.  I would have suggested she go more neutral with the lips since the dress is so dramatic).

January Jones (in Versace) - Golden Globes 2011

Jane Krakowski is pregnant and still looking fashionably fabulous!  This color looks great on her and the style of the dress has a touch of romance with the elegant draping and a soft mix of fabrics. I really love her choice of hair, makeup, and accessories with this dress (the earrings are incredibly impeccable for completing this look).

Jane Krakowski (in Badgley Mischka Couture) - Golden Globes 2011

Now for my favorite look of the evening…my Golden Globes 2011 Best Dressed goes to…

Maria Menounos looked absolutely stunning in a Pamella Roland gown at the 2011 Golden Globes!!!

I AM IN LOVE WITH MARIA MENOUNOS in this dress! This is totally something I’d wear as I love everything about the dress!  The silhouette is absolutely beautiful and I love all the styling details:  The deep v-neckline with embellishments for extra glamour and drama, the tiered ruffling effect, the flare  at the bottom is definitely an added styling bonus, and I typically DO NOT like baby pink although I do make exceptions when necessary!  It’s a very fair baby pink, which looks striking against her skintone.

I love that she kept the accessories toned down and complimented this ultra-feminine dress with soft hair and makeup.

Emmy Awards 2010 BEST Dressed List & Red Carpet’s Hottest Trends

Posted in AWARD SHOWS, FASHION with tags , , , , , on September 2, 2010 by stylebymeli

I’ll be honest, I don’t really watch the Emmy Awards.  I don’t care about the nominations and who walks away with an award.  For me, it’s just about the fashion.  I love to look at who wore what!  I love watching the Fashion Police after the awards show to hear the fashion critiques.  I finally got a chance to watch the Fashion Police and now I’d like to share my style critique along with the trends found on the red carpet!

If you missed the Fashion Police, be sure to watch the video below to see their nominees for the BEST and the WORST dressed!

Emmy Fashion Trends 2010:

- Bold colors (lots of red especially)

- Lace

- Extra volume/poofiness

- Ruffles

- Solid black

Emmy Fashion BEST Dressed (the looks I loved most):

Emmy Awards 2010 - Claire Danes

I really LOVED the overall look.  She just sparkles from head to toe.  I liked that she didn’t really follow any of the major trends, she did her own thing!

She also had the BEST makeup!  Props to her makeup artist!  Her skin looks GREAT and the makeup has a soft glow to match the dress.

I love that the hair is down with soft wavy curls.  I don’t think it would have been the same if she put her hair in an updo with this look.

The silhouette is a little too simple for my taste but it WORKS being that the embellishments are so intricate and bling bling.

Emmy Awards 2010 - Eva Longoria

I am a little bias when it comes to Eva Longoria because I think she is one of the most stunning women in Hollywood.  Everything about her is beautiful. She always looks great and really knows how to dress her petite frame to perfection.

I really like the texture on the bottom (looks like a rose pattern) contrasted with the simple top.  If it was textured completely, it would not be as visually interesting.

The silhouette is looks great!  I like that it highlights her waist and then flares on the bottom.  So elegant and chic.

Emmy Awards 2010 - Maria Menounos

Although this is borderline over-styled, it still peaks my interest.  For one, the dress is totally unique and cannot be compared to anyone else.

I love when there are cut-outs somehow incorporated into a dress.  It’s harder to pull off but when done right, it’s spectacular!

I love the embellishments being that there is a lot going on with this dress, it’s appropriate for the hair to be up.

However, I don’t think the red lip was necessary with this look. Although she looks pretty with red lips, it’s a little TOO much with this dress.  I would have suggested a light lip color, such as a sheer baby pink.

Emmy Awards 2010 - Jewel

I really LOVE this gown!  The dress is gorgeous and fits amazing on her.  I like everything about this dress from the lace to the tiers to the  cream color.

It’s a really feminine, soft look which works great for her voluptuous body.  It would not look the on someone with less curves in my opinion.

I like her choice of jewelry along with her hair and makeup.  It looks like she is wearing a deep red lipstick.  It works with this look being the color of the dress is so soft.

She didn’t get a lot of recognition for this dress but this was definitely one of my personal favorites!

My Emmy 2010 Best Dressed Award goes to….

Emmy Awards 2010 - Lea Michele

I totally agree with the Fashion Police’s pick for the Emmy Awards 2010 Best Dressed.

Why this look won my vote for BEST DRESSED:

- Lea Michelle looks FANTASTIC from head to toe. Meaning all the styling involved is perfect!  The hair, makeup, and jewelry.  The NECKLACE is not only beautiful, but PERFECT with this dress!  Love, love, love!!!

- The dress color is very interesting. At first I was not sure how I felt because this not a color I am normally drawn to.  However, being that the style of the dress is already so dramatic, the color NEEDS to be muted. It would be way too over the top if this dress was hot pink or red.  This dresses commands attention with elegance and without being too in your face.

- The dress is just stunning with high style!  Best of all, she looks great in it!  At the end of the day, a dress can be beautiful but if it doesn’t accentuate the body, it’s not worth it!
