Jeffrey Campbell Michelle unicorn heels in gold

I have been desperately searching for these shoes for quite some time (believe they came out a year or two ago) and so happy to find a seller on Ebay who has these in gold.  They also came in black (both patent and suede) and also nude.  I would have loved to have these in nude, but am okay with having them in gold.  I wear a lot of black so this is will coordinate nicely.  I should be getting these in the mail by Monday.  Super excited!

Here is a closer look at what they look like:

I really love the ruffle styling detail and the unicorn heels makes this pair of heels a truly unique piece.  They also came out with a peep-toe version of this shoe but I honestly like the closed toe much better.

I’m a huge fan of Jeffrey Campbell.  His shoes are amazing and always very different.

[My Thoughts on...] Project Runway Season 9 Finale

Posted in FASHION, PROJECT RUNWAY on October 28, 2011 by stylebymeli

I can easily write a novel regarding my final thoughts on any given Project Runway finale; however, I’m going to try to do my very best to keep it short and sweet.

Why This Has Been One of the BEST Seasons of Project Runway…

What made this season an exceptionally stellar season (for me personally) was the fact that the talent presented this season was pretty equal across the board.  I honestly do NOT appreciate when one (or two) designers dominate the entire season.  I just don’t like when it’s so predictable!  This season really kept me guessing and I enjoyed seeing most of the designers win at least one challenge.

There’s always going to be some sort of drama and interesting personalities amongst the cast of designers along with a dose of jealousy here and there; however, I’d say overall, the designers seemed to truly connect and be respectful towards one another.  Don’t get me wrong, there were some episodes that displayed an excessive amount of emotionalism; but this is reality TV and with high levels of stress the designers are put under, it’s only natural for them to be behave the way that they do.

Who I wanted to win Project Runway…

I had expressed early in the season that I was strongly rooting for Anthony Ryan Auld; however he eventually got eliminated towards the later half of the season which was fairly devastating to watch (because he clearly was talented, just didn’t perform consistently with the challenges given).  I’m not going to lie, I definitely shed some tears during his departure.  It’s amazing how a show revolved around fashion can evoke such an intense emotional response, but fashion is seriously my life and embedded in my soul.  As dramatic as that may sound (especially to people reading this and don’t even know me personally), it’s just coming from within and then expressed into words.

Over time, I grew to LOVE Joshua McKinley.  His work at times may had been harshly critiqued for being too over-the-top and “not edited enough,” but to me, isn’t that what fashion is all about?!  I greatly admire designers that aren’t afraid to take a risk and who not only present visually aesthetic work, but fashion that is thought-provoking.  By that I mean, it makes me think and it makes a statement in some way.  I love when I can look at fashion and it gives me chills.

There were times I wasn’t completely in love with Joshua’s work, but at the end of the day, he was always true to himself as a designer and knew how to capture his creative voice in fashion which made him a true winner in my eyes.

My Favorite Collection…

For starters, I was thoroughly impressed by everyone’s collection one way or another.  Typically, I find there are Project Runway finales where the final designers showcase some not so amazing collections.  By that I mean they lacked cohesion in some way or the quality of work was just not up to par in my opinion in terms of Fashion Week standards.  However, I was very pleased with what everyone had created for Fashion Week.  So congrats to the final four:  Kimberly, Joshua, Viktor, and Anya.

In terms of favorite collection, it was really a toss-up between Kimberly and Joshua with a little more of a strong favor towards Kimberly.  She presented a collection that I could most relate to in terms of the type of girl that would wear her clothing.  They were beautifully constructed with unique styling details and completely feminine, modern, and a little fierce.

Take this look for example…

Is this not exquisite? This was one of my favorite looks from her collection. I'm obsessed with the cream white high waisted pants and sheer top tucked underneath. It looks exceptionally beautiful against the model's complexion and tastefully styled with neutral makeup and side swept hair. (Yes, I'm in love).

Joshua’s collection consisted of some hit-or-miss looks, but overall I ranked his collection as one of my favorites for its individuality and for making bold fashion statements (which his designs always seem to do).  His style aesthetic is just very intriguing.

Viktor’s collection definitely showcased some show-stopper material, but overall, I’ve just never been a fan of his designs.  Yes, they were constucted impeccably, but I didn’t really get a true sense of who he was as a designer and many times I felt his work lacked taste.  Really, I can’t think of anything throughout the entire season that he created that really WOW’ed me.

Anya’s collection had some really interesting pieces and she definitely has great taste in style, BUT I did NOT value the fact she presented things I’ve already seen her do a million times and it mainly just consisted of long, flowy dresses with a bold print.  I would have liked to have seen more creativity in terms of the silhouettes she presented.  It’s kind of boring after awhile when you see it done in excess.  I don’t want this to take away from her talent, she definitely possesses a natural gift (especially for having the least amount of experience in the fashion world compared to all the other designers), but her collection definitely bored me (sadly, was my least favorite).

Anya (Really)?

It was pretty predictable that Anya had the strongest chance of winning Project Runway this season being that she did collect the most wins throughout the season and her strong taste in fashion made up for her lack of sewing experience.

However, based on the judges final critiques, it really sounded like they were most impressed with Joshua’s collection.  So when they announced Anya as the winner of Project Runway this season, I was thoroughly disappointed.  (I’ll just leave it at that).

Final Thoughts:

Although I was not thrilled with the overall outcome this season, it was still enjoyable to watch and I do believe Anya is a wickedly talented designer with a beautiful soul.

Mark Your Calendars…Versace for H & M Collection with Sneak Preview and What’s on my Fashion Wishlist

Posted in FASHION, HANDBAGS, JEWELRY, SHOES, SHOPPING on October 26, 2011 by stylebymeli

The Versace for H&M collection officially launches on November 19th in the USA. It will feature a 50 piece collection including dresses, skirts, tops, leggings, scarves, jewelry, shoes, handbags, and outerwear.

In case you haven’t heard the hype, I wanted to announce that Versace has collaborated with H&M to create a killer collection that captures the essence of Versace (at a fraction of the cost).

The collection will officially be launched at select locations (and also available online) at about 300 stores nationwide on November 19th.  These types of collections are ALWAYS instant sell-outs due to limited quantities and a high demand, so I recommend if you are even considering taking home a piece from this divine collection that you consider packing an overnight sleeping bag and camp outside your local H&M (okay, I’m half kidding).  In all seriousness, you will need to get there before opening as there will be lines of fashionistas ready to lunge for everything in sight as soon as the doors open.  No doubt about it!

It is for this reason I never even attempt to try to go to these collection launches because they sell out in under an hour typically and ever since Roberto Cavalli created a collection with H&M years ago and I didn’t go soon enough, I was pretty devastated.  (But that doesn’t mean I’m defeated)!

This time around, I think I may actually attempt to snag a few fashion goodies and be up at the crack of dawn for this collection launch.  I got a chance to preview the collection and I’m especially loving the jewelry and handbags.

I’m also very much in love with this…

This is one of my favorite pieces from the collection. It's fierce, edgy while still being sort of classic. If I were to own this, I'm sure I'd find a way to rock this for a lifetime. ;)

[Is anyone planning on checking out H&M for their upcoming Versace collection?]

[Outfit Post] With Striped Aqua Cami + Cropped Sweater + Metallic Gold Booties…A Casual Cool Fall Look

Posted in CONSIGNMENT STORES, FASHION, OUTFIT POST, SHOES with tags , , , , on October 24, 2011 by stylebymeli

This is an outfit I actually put together a few days ago.  I really like the cool casualness of this look.  It’s stylish in a more effortless way.  It captures visual interest without being too over dramatic.

My personal style is eclectic and I enjoy sharing different view points of how I express myself through fashion.  Enjoy lovers!

About This Outfit:

[The Outfit]:  I am wearing a white and aqua striped tunic cami from Abercrombie and Fitch.  I do NOT shop there in all honesty (never really got too into the whole over-priced preppy look in my youth either); HOWEVER, I found this piece from a local consignment store and it’s been a wardrobe staple since the summer.  I probably won’t get to wear it too much in the fall/winter months but you can see that I’m still wearing it in October!

The white cropped sweater is from The Limited.  I am completely in love with this sweater.  I love where the bottom hits the body (right at my waist), the 3/4 sleeve, and openness.  The texture is also very soft and cozy.

The metallic gold rusched booties are from Aldo and I purchased these at least three years ago I believe.  I honestly only get to wear these a handful of times each season.  Even though they seem like they’d go with everything, they are semi-dramatic so I have to be careful as to how I style these without OVER-styling.  It works with this look because it’s pretty casual overall and the booties add just a small dose of drama.

The necklace is from Guess, purchased exactly a year ago at the Guess store in Atlantic City.  Besides Forever 21, I do like to shop at Guess for jewelry.

[Where to wear this outfit]:  This was a daytime look.  This is pretty casual for me but it works because of the extra styling details (mainly the accessories and metallic booties).

[Stylish Notes]:

-  Understanding basic layering is crucial to creating the perfect outfit.  In order to get it right, you have to really know your assets (everyone has them!!) and understand how to enhance them through clothing.

 - One of my biggest styling pet peeves is ill-fitted clothing.  Most of my clothing happens to be skin tight because I know this works for my shape.  My silhouette is overall, fairly proportioned, so wearing fitted clothing enhances my natural shape.

-  Don’t be afraid to wear “summer” colors in the fall.  The cami is definitely more of a summer piece but you can see that with good styling, you can easily work it into your fall wardrobe.  (I don’t like to follow color rules in fashion).

-  As I had mentioned, the boots are a few years old and even though I don’t wear them all the time, it was still a great fashion investment because you never know when they will complete an outfit!  I see myself keeping these boots for years to come.

I can't get over how perfect the layering is in this outfit. Visually, the proportions created here are just dead on. The contrasts are also visually appealing.

Here you can get a closer look at the necklace. I like the mix between gold and silver metals in this piece. I love the tassels too of course!

[Thanks for viewing!  Thoughts?]
