[Outfit Post] With White Romper + Metallic Pink Shrug + Black Frames and Shoes…A Sophisticated and Stylish Look with A Boost of Sex Appeal

Posted in FASHION, OUTFIT POST, SHOES, SHOPPING with tags , , , , on September 29, 2011 by stylebymeli

I feel that lately, my style has been a little more understated and classy (although I’m very much into the dramatic and flashy stuff as we all know).

About This Outfit:

[The Outfit]:  I am wearing a white romper from Arden B.

The metallic pink cropped long sleeve sweater shrug is from Express.

The shoes are BCBG and happen to be the same ones I wore in my last outfit post except this time, you can see the shoe design as it’s contrasting with my bare skin versus against a black tight.  I have had these shoes for a few years and still love them!

[Where to wear this outfit]:  I wore this during the day.  I think it could be okay for the evening given that it was for going out for dinner at a classy place.

[Stylish Notes]:

-  Usually I like a lot more contrast when I color coordinate my clothing, but I have to say that this combo is different for me and it just works.  The colors of the outfit are soft and feminine while the black (frames and shoes) gives the final look a little edge.  Again, I love to mix soft and edgy styling details.

 - I purchased this romper in the beginning of summer and you can see that the style works even for the fall.  It’s great when you can purchase pieces that work year-round with just the right styling.

-  Notice how the black frames from my glasses coordinate nicely with the black shoes.  I tried a few different shoes on with this outfit before making the decision to wear these.  Sometimes you have to play before finalizing what looks best and this is okay!  Even someone like myself with a professional eye has to try a few things before getting it right at the end.

I don’t know about you, but I think having a sophisticated style can be so incredibly sexy.  Even though wearing glasses can seem “geeky,” I personally feel it not only makes me look smarter, I feel it gives me extra sex appeal.  ;)  You don’t need to be overt to be sexy.  Besides having impeccable style, It also comes from being confident in the INSIDE.

This look is sophisticated, classy, and sexy all at the same time.

I really love everything about this white romper. It's just sharp. The dramatic collar neckline and tie at the waist are great styling details.

Where I Get A Lot of My Style Inspiration…

Posted in DRESSES, FASHION, ONLINE SHOPPING, SHOPPING on September 26, 2011 by stylebymeli

Besides fashion magazines (my absolute favorite being Harper’s Bazaar), I actually get a lot of inspiration through some of my favorite websites.  I always like to look at my favorite places to shop such as Guess, Bebe, and Arden B to check out their “What’s New” sections or their lookbooks.

I’m always looking for new silhouettes, clever styling combos, fresh colors, and just visually appealing fashion.  My all-time favorite place to go for a dose of fashion inspiration is Shopbop.com.

Here is a look at their website. It is definitely worth checking out if you are not already familiar with Shopbop!

Besides offering some of the best designer clothing, shoes, and accessories, I have to say they do an amazing job with their seasonal lookbooks.  On top of that, the styling of the clothing is really cutting edge and I’m always bound to find something to leave me a fashionable impression.

Here, I was checking out their dress section. I especially love the Rebecca Taylor ruffle dress featured here (second from the right).

Posted in MAKE-UP, MELI'S FAB FINDS, ONLINE SHOPPING, SHOPPING on September 23, 2011 by stylebymeli

Hey everyone, I received an e-mail yesterday regarding Stila’s 20% friends and family discount that is going on until Tuesday with free shipping!  That’s pretty awesome!  I figured it was worth sharing on my blog! :)

I personally don’t own a ton of Stila products; however, I do currently own their All Over Shimmer Liquid Luminizer (LOVE it) and their Custom Color Blush in the pink shade which I’m also terribly in love with.  I am noticing they are sold out of this blush online, so I guess I’m not the only one that loves this product!!

PS- Sorry I have been absent from my blog these days, I’m actually very eager to blog, but have been extremely busy and on top of that, I am officially setting my alarm for 3:50AM tomorrow!  (I have an early bride and bridal party).  Meaning an early night for me as I’m going to need my beauty sleep! ;)  Thanks for reading lovelies, more to come when I have the time!  xoxo

[Outfit Post] with White Body Suit + Black Cropped Shrug + Cobalt Blue Houndstooth Skirt…A Preppy Back-to-School Look

Posted in FASHION, OUTFIT POST, SHOPPING with tags , , , , on September 21, 2011 by stylebymeli

As promised, I am focusing on contributing more outfit posts this month for fall fashion inspiration and this is also the direction I would like my blog to be going (hope everyone is as excited about that as I am)!

It is truly one of my greatest passions in life to inspire people with my personal style and find that there is really something to be learned through each and every outfit post I share along with unique style twists…since that is what fashion is all about!

About This Outfit:

[The Outfit]:  I am wearing a few pieces to create this look.  First, I am wearing a white bodysuit from Guess.

The black cropped shrug is from Forever 21.  I wear this very frequently.

The black belt which has been featured in a previous outfit post (and that I also wear pretty often) is from Guess.

The amazing cobalt blue and black houndstooth print skirt is initially from Urban Outfitters by a brand called, “Lux.”  Although I picked this up from a consignment store last year, this is actually the FIRST time I’m wearing the skirt (hard to believe I know, but I’m pretty sure I bought this end of the season, hence why I couldn’t really utilize it at the time).

The shoes which you unfortunately cannot get a good look at because it blends with the black tights (from Express) are BCBG.  I will wear these in another post so you can see how great the style is of these shoes!

[Where to wear this outfit]:  This was a daytime outfit that I wore last week.  Although I’m no longer a student, I just think this looks like a school outfit.  It has a preppy feel with a stylish sophistication.

[Stylish Notes]:

-  If you haven’t noticed, I really focus on impeccable fit with my clothing section.  I like to accentuate the natural curves of my body with form-fitting clothes.  I personally do not like my clothing to hang too loosely on the body as it would not be doing anything to enhance my figure.

 - This mini skirt is pretty short, so there is NO WAY I would be wearing this without tights.  The black tights coordinate perfectly with the cropped black shrug and bring unison to the entire outfit.

-  This print is so classy yet modern all at the same time.  Although wearing prints can be tricky, I think every good wardrobe should include some prints into the mix.  It captures your personal taste and style aesthetic.

Anytime we are dealing with prints, I always want to emphasize the importance of paying attention to the SCALE of the print (size of the print design).  It is crucial that you not only pick a print that you are visually attracted to, but the scale needs to be balanced with the frame of your body.

[For more info on print selection, please check out this older post I wrote regarding the subject.  It covers it in greater detail].

A closer look at the final look I put together. Sharp and chic.

Absolutely LOVE this print. The cobalt blue/black combo gives this classic print a modern twist.

I don't know why, but I like this photo. It also captures my semi-messy hair. This is my hair in its most natural state (in process of air-drying). I don't style my hair at all (other than throwing a headband if you call that styling). I just let it do its thing and kind of like the outcome although it's out of place. Imperfections like these can be stylish, no?

Meli’s Fall Fashion 2011 Wish List And My Top 10 Trends That I Will Be Wearing This Season

Posted in FASHION, MELI'S FAB FINDS, SHOES, SHOPPING, STYLISH PICKS OF THE WEEK with tags , , , , , , , , , , , , , , , on September 20, 2011 by stylebymeli

So it officially feels like fall in New Jersey and I’m excited to share what I’ll be wearing this season, along with what I’m totally lusting for right now!  Fall is my favorite season, not just for the weather but for the FASHION of course! ;)

* First, I’d like to start with my fashion wish list (as depicted in the collage I created above):

-  Tassle metallic wedges (OMG these Jeffrey Campbells I found through Polyvore are TO DIE FOR, I’m so obsessed with the tassles and mettalic finish and the height of these bad boys…WOW, THESE ARE TOO BEYOND AMAZING FOR WORDS!  I may have to splurge on these, like for real)

-  Red skinny jeans (I love the idea of these, they are sharp and striking)

-  High waist pants (I’m on a total high waist kick, I only own high waisted shorts and skirts…could go for some high waisted pants)

-  Accessories with tassles, animal print, and red (I love all those design elements)

 *  Also still looking for a fur (real) bag!  Ideally a white rabbit fur one :)
*  I could also use a cropped leather motorcycle jacket for my edgy side
*  Thin belts…I own a lot of thicker ones and could use a really chic thin one to cinch a look or two!

Moving onto the trends I’m totally wearing this season (along with some throw-backs from last season)…

-  Bodysuits (I currently own a white one and my new J Crew black/white stripped off shoulder)

-  Stirrups (I don’t see myself giving up my stirrups, these may not be a common trend, so I will just classify it as a “Meli trend” that is NOT going anywhere anytime soon!  I like to be a trendsetter like that!)

-  Black leggings (I still live in black leggings and have different variations with zippers on the bottom sides along with a riding style look)

-  Skinny jeans (Although all kinds of shapes are coming back in style, I am still 100% loyal to my skinny jeans and NOT ready to retire them or convert to any other pant style just yet)

-  Jeggings (I love the comfort and smooth fit of a nice pair of jeggings…I have two pairs: a dark denim and acid wash)

-  Black arm warmers (Don’t see this trend too frequently, but they are hot and visually really cool looking while also being very warm of course.  This is another “Meli trend”)

-   Metallics (I typically favor gold but like metallics in all varieties)

-  Red (Red is bigger and bolder than ever this season, just as much as when I first wrote about this trend…I’m still wearing red with full confidence!)

-  Animal print (I especially love it with shoes and accessories, but totally open to it within clothing in moderation)

-  Lace (I favor black lace but love white lace as well.  Actually, I pretty much like any lace although I can be semi-picky with the actual lace print itself.  Regardless, lace is always a feminine and pretty choice)

Speaking of black lace, I just converted my summer everyday bag to my Guess swan doctor satchel that I purchased a year ago. This is going to be my everyday fall bag. I surprisingly didn't use it all that often last season and look forward to using this daily!

[What are your favorite trends this fall?  Am I missing anything that you find to be a 2011 fall trend essential?]
