I wore this outfit a few days ago on a hot summer day.
About This Outfit:
[The Outfit]: You’re never going to believe this, but I found this at the beginning of the week at my favorite consignment store in town (the same place that I recently picked up the 80′s vintage rhinestone bag) and this is actually a vintage BATHING SUIT. When I saw it, I immediately thought, OMG what a hot romper. Then I looked at the tag to find out this was actually a bathing suit (I’m guessing circa 1960′s?). The best thing is, it looks like it was never worn, it’s in perfect condition!
It’s hard to believe this was a bathing suit because of the fact the fabric is so much thicker than today’s swimwear and that the body is so covered up that one would think this was an actual outfit. FYI, the back is actually almost totally exposed, which truly makes this even hotter! I love anything with an exposed back (as I’m all about a sexy back)!
The shoes are from Aldo, purchased almost 5 years ago while I was on vacation in Hawaii. They are metallic caged heels. These shoes (despite the fact it’s starting to show signs of wear) get a lot of fashion mileage and ones I feel never go out of style.
[Where to wear this outfit]: I think this is a nice outfit to wear at a summer party (as it’s festive and fun) or just casually. Or better yet, why not pack this on your next exotic getaway?
[Stylish Notes]:
[I apologize that the photos sometimes come out really blurry (I'm not the most tech savvy person in the world), but I did take better close-up shots which really captured some crisp photos of the print itself].
- Take special note of my lipstick choice and how it compliments the dark color within the print. I wanted to choose a darker lip color to compliment but also for there to be contrast (the brightness of the print). I constantly emphasis the key element of my styling which is all about creating contrast.
Remember, as I always say: Building contrast will create VISUAL INTEREST.
If you follow this basic style rule, you will always be ahead of the style curve. The overall outfit itself would be classified as REALLY bright in my opinion. It was for this reason that I did NOT choose a bright lip (such as a bright coral–this would also be too matchy match in my opion) because I wanted there to be some sort of contrast (meaning visual interest).
- Also notice how the white headband COMPLIMENTS the white from the print while also CONTRASTING against my dark hair (meaning the headband stands out much more).
- It is AMAZING how impeccable the fit is of this garment on me. This looks like it was custom made to fit my body perfectly. Essentially, you want all your clothing to fit in this way. I am SUCH a style nazi about good fit and will NOT settle for clothing that does nothing for my natural figure. I’ve learned over the years that if the fit is NOT 100% right from day 1 (and it’s something that you cannot have altered), you will most likely NEVER reach for it because why are you settling for something that looks mediocre when you know there are PLENTY of things out there that can ENHANCE your silhouette and make you look like your absolute BEST? (No perfect body required, Remember: Beauty comes in all shapes and sizes).
Styling Confession: If you haven’t noticed, I dress solely for aesthetic purposes. By that I mean the overall look has to be incredibly pleasing to my eyes. I’m such a ridiculously visual person, which comes natural for me because I am a true artist. I don’t care so much for the “physical comfort” of something. Too many people reach for “comfort” objects (such as baggy sweatpants) which may feel super cozy, but it’s doing absolutely NO JUSTICE to your natural figure. Save your baggy pants for the comfort of your own home (or the gym if you’re going to choose to go baggy. Personally, if I’m going to wear athletic pants to the gym, you better believe they are skin-tight and hug the curves of my body to perfection). ;) Again, I’m all about visual effects.

I feel like I could totally pass for a Malibu Barbie in this photo (minus the blond hair that is ;)...Barbie can keep it LOL)! because the outfit looks so tropical.

A close-up of the print. It's absolutely stunning. The mix of colors and the print itself are breathtaking. I'm also loving the buttons down the center, it's a nice styling extra.
