“Walking in a Winter Wonderland” – Fashion Trends for this Snowy Season

Posted in FASHION, STYLE COLLAGES with tags , , , , , on December 27, 2010 by stylebymeli

I am officially snowed-in and in New Jersey, it has been declared a State of Emergency as of last night…meaning I am not going anywhere anytime soon!  This is the first snow blizzard of the season and I must say, it is scary out there.  I had to drive in it yesterday at about 1:30pm and thankfully traveled safely.

This is a glimpse of what it looks like here in New Jersey. It's a pretty "winter wonderland" setting, which inspired me to create a set of winter and snow inspired trends.

Being snowed in for me means bundling up in some blankets, drinking a hot beverage (for me that would be tea, but I also enjoy a nice cup of hot cocoa every so often), breaking out a board game if I am not by myself, and sitting in front of a computer blogging about what I love most:  fashion and makeup.

Today, I chose to write about winter inspired trends and created a new style set:

Hope you enjoy the collection of fashion eye candy I put together and if anyone else is snowed in out there like I am, please stay warm and be safe!

Season’s Greetings With Love From Meli And Philosophy Giveaway Winner Annoucement

Posted in BEAUTY TREATMENT, GIVEAWAY WINNER ANNOUCEMENTS with tags , , on December 25, 2010 by stylebymeli

Merry Christmas!!! I just wanted to wish everyone a wonderful holiday and hope you love the blog card I designed up above with a Christmas tree filled with beauty treats (wouldn’t it be nice to have a tree like that?)

I also want to take the time to announce the winner of my Philosophy Giveaway that was held during the month of December.  Thank you everyone for participating, I enjoyed reading everyone’s answers!  The winner of this giveaway goes to Soh May from Malaysia!  Congrats!

In order to enter the giveaway, I asked:

* What fashion/beauty related item is on your holiday wish list and what makes it so stylishly cool?

The top item on my wishlist is NARS Hydrating Freshening Lotion!

“It is recommended by the top Japanese beauty guru, Chizu Saeki, to be used as a lotion mask :)
You can see that her method really works well because her skin looks so nice even though she’s 67 years old. Her skin looks tons better than mine even though I am only 19.”

This does sound really amazing!  I am not too familiar with the NARS skincare line (I have only tried their face primer), but this is definitely deserving of going on my beauty wish list as well.  Anything that keeps the skin looking youthful and fresh sounds good to me!

Thank you again Soh May for sharing this with us!  Also, please stay tuned everyone for more giveaways in the new year!  There will be more beauty/style treats coming your way! ;)

Happy holidays, Merry Christmas, and thank you all for stopping by!

Fashion Magazine Ads as Home Decor – Ideas for Adding Some Style into Your Home

Posted in FASHION, HOME DECOR, MADONNA, MAGAZINE with tags , , on December 21, 2010 by stylebymeli

Besides having an unlimited passion for fashion and makeup, I am also heavily obsessed with decorating and bringing a sense of style in my home.

For me, having style is not just about having the most fashionable clothes, it is a lifestyle and should be incorporated in all areas of life.  Hence why my quote is, “Life is meant to be stylish.”

I have been collecting Madonna’s Dolce and Gabbana advertisements from fashion magazines and finally have gotten an opportunity to frame them and hang them on the walls in my bedroom.

I absolutely LOVE Madonna (her drive, music, lyrics, and pretty much everything about her) and thought it would be great to frame these ads as a tribute to her.  They are also beautiful advertisements!

[Speaking of Madonna, I also plan on creating a Madonna inspiration page with my favorite quotes and lyrics from her in the near future!  Will keep you posted once I work on this in the new year].

A closer look at one of Madonna's ad campaigns for Dolce and Gabbana

If you’re interested in doing the same thing with your favorite fashion magazine ads, just gently pull the the ads out of the magazine and purchase some 11″ x 14″ frames.  Ideally ones that come with a matte border.  It is a great way to show your love for style and making your home look tres chic!

My First Christmas Tree and My Weekend of Stylish Holiday Events

Posted in EVENTS, HOME DECOR, MORE ABOUT MELI with tags , , , , on December 20, 2010 by stylebymeli

This weekend was filled with holiday cheer as I threw my first Christmas party at my home (it’s hard to believe I have been living in my condo for almost a year now!) and I also attended another holiday party at my friend’s sister’s home in the beautiful Smoke Rise community in Kinnelon, New Jersey.

Here is a look at my Christmas tree!  Although I very much admire a real tree, I decided to go with a fake one as its just easier to maintain and I know I can use it every year.  It came with the built in colored lights and I added candy canes, a gold beaded garland, gold glittery ornaments, and a big red bow on top.

My first Christmas tree!

I really wanted to get a star for the top of the tree, but I honestly did NOT find one I was 100% in love with and I’m not going to just settle for any old star unless I knew it was perfect. Instead, I decided the bow was a nice finish (hard to see in the photo, but it also matches with the red decor theme of my living room).

Here are some photos taken from my holiday party along with the other party I attended this past weekend:

Here is a look at some appetizers I put together for my guests that included lox on petite toast (I LOVE lox!!!), fruit, cheese/salami with an assortment of crackers, and an asiago artichoke dip that was to die for.

I thought it would be a nice gesture to give out holiday goodie bags to my guests which included a shower gel, hand lotion, or candle and mixed chocolates/mints.

Here is a photo of one of my best friend's and I exchanging gifts. She arrived hours before my party officially started and came all the way from Connecticut! I only get to see her a few times a year so her presence was seriously a holiday gift in itself!

A beautiful view from Kathy's home in Kinnelon, New Jersey

Look at their main Christmas tree...it's 14 feet tall! Stunning!

Here is a photo take of me with my friend Maria (in the middle) and her cousin Lia (on the left). We love to dress up!
