MAC – “A Tartan Tale” Collection REVIEW

It’s that time of the year everyone!  With the holidays approaching in less than a blink of an eye, MAC officially launches their holiday collection, “A Tartan Tale” tomorrow, October 28th.  For starters, the packaging is all a tartan (plaid) design, which is very different than any other holiday collection that MAC has made.  It’s the perfect look for a holiday collection with an ultra-preppy flare.  The collection offers an assortment of lipsticks, dazzleglass cremes, pigments, eye shadows, pearlglide eye liners, and nail lacquers.

What’s really great about this year’s holiday eye shadows are they are NOT mineralize this year!  Mineralize eye shadows have a much lesser color payoff and seem to not last as long throughout the day.  This year, MAC created eye shadows with a plaid design on them.  Although they are comparable in size to a mineralize eye shadow, they are completely different.  The texture of the shadow is buttery soft with buildable coverage.

Typically, the holiday collections are not my personal favorite because I feel as though the color story behind the collection is very commercial. They try to pick a lot of basic colors that look great on everyone with various choices so that there is a little something for everyone.  Of course there is nothing wrong with this!  However, I feel like the colors often resemble colors that are already in the line.  This bores me!  I want to see new things!  I am always looking to try the coolest new things and need new stuff to excite me!

Although I had mentioned that holiday collections are not usually my favorite, I have to say there are some really cool products that caught my eye and I already put stuff on hold to pick up tomorrow!

My Shopping List:

- “My Highland Honey” blush [This is a BEAUTIFUL soft peach color with a satin finish.  This warms up any skintone!  I love it]

- “Cut a Caper” lipstick [HOT neon coral lustre shade.  It very much reminds me of "Razzlerdazzler" from the Raquel Welch which is one of my all time favorite lipsticks ever made).

- "Romancin'" dazzleglass creme [Beautiful lavender color]

- “Lightly Prancing” dazzleglass creme [Nude gloss with gold shimmer]

Here is a closer look at all the dazzleglass cremes:

Overall, I really love the collection.  It includes a nice mix of colors that can create an assortment of looks! The lip colors are great and eye shadows are really unique this year.  I also like the pearlglide eye liners.  Although I am not picking up any, I think they look great and glide on very easily.  As for the pigments and nail lacquer choices, they are just okay.  If I were to pick up something from the collection, I’d definitely try out the eye shadows and of course a fantastic lip product!

  1. I am going to be picking up some stuff up from this collection. I went over to MAC a few days ago to check it out and really liked some of the stuff. The lady in the store told me the brush sets are expected to sell out first but I’ve been hearing the brush kits are not good, so I’m going to pass on them.
